Working with Crystals in Pairs

Two frequently-asked questions heard at the Crystal Bee are:

“Is it helpful to work with more than one kind of crystal at the same time?”

“Is it helpful to work with more than one of the same kind of crystal at a time?”

Although my answers to these questions are always based on the person asking them and their particular circumstances at the time, working with more than one crystal at a time opens up a unlimited array of possibilities that can enhance one’s work with the crystal kingdom.

When people first begin to work with crystals, or find their way to a new, unfamiliar stone, it can be helpful to spend a little time with each one individually to become acquainted with it’s energy and how they experience it. Once introduced, working with crystals in combination can be a rewarding experience. Like creating a recipe for a delicious food, bringing together the subtle energies of crystals in combination can yield wonderful energetic results. While stone lay-outs using many crystals at one time are a long-standing tradition in crystal healing, working with crystals in pairs is a less complicated way to begin to expand your crystal work or to explore new healing horizons.

Crystal Combinations
The possible combinations and applications of working with crystals in pairs is limitless. Here are a few possibilities to consider:

  • Amplifying the energy of a stone
While some people choose to work with more than one member of a stone family at a time, another alternative for expanding the energy supplied by a
crystal is to pair it with a high frequency stone partner such as clear quartz. If you are interested in working with stronger energies, but do not have
more powerful stones available, stone pairing can be a helpful alternative.

Using stone pairs to amplify energy is also helpful when you’d like to use crystals to create a healthy home, work, or other space that has a larger
    energy field.

  • Opening/enhancing the flow of energy
Stone pairs can also be used to re-establish or enhance healthy energy flow by using strategically-placed pairs to clear stagnant energy (energy blocks) and to restore a healthy energy circuit. Because maintaining healthy energy flow is a key factor in maintaining optimum health and well-being, this is an area in which crystals may make an important contribution.

  • Accelerating a process
When using crystals for self-care processes such as replenishing core energies (physical, emotional, etc.) or cleaning the energy field, working with stones in strategically-placed pairs (same stone family or having complementary properties) can help you to complete the work in less time.

  • Working with healing pairs
In all crystal work, your own intuition is your best guide for selecting the crystals that are most appropriate for your healing work. Your intention for the work (grounding,, cleansing, nourishment, specific healing, spiritual growth, etc.) is the energetic key to directing you to the stones that can be most helpful to you at the time.

If you are new to crystal work and uncertain how to proceed, one way to begin is to work with a pair that models a stone combination found
    in nature such as:
    • Red jasper and hematite (mugglestone) – grounding, etc.
    • Lepidolite with rubellite – unconditional love, healing
    • Chrysocolla-malachite – unconditional love, healing, abundance, etc.

  • Healing with Pairs in the Moment
As in all crystal work, the effectiveness of working with pairs is based upon your energetic needs at the particular time. While you may continue to find certain stone combinations helpful on a regular or periodic basis, you may find other new combinations more helpful as you and your healing opportunities grow and change. The recipe for working with crystals in pairs is a work in progress!
